I was chatting with a member of the Pilates studio who had just taken my advanced class for the first time. She was so thrilled and proud of herself that she’d finally made it to the advanced level. Her face sweaty and beaming, she said, “It was hard — but doable.” I was surprised when she confided that she’d been hesitant to take my advanced class. She explained, “I wasn’t sure if my legs could withstand all the squats and lunges. People say that your advanced classes are killers because of your leg work.”

With my extensive fitness background, I know what it takes to transform the body. Therefore, I ensure people get what they pay for: a full-body transformation. Unfortunately, some marketers have taken advantage of people to quickly sell them on an exercise program that involves simply “lying down on the bed, waving the arms and legs in straps, and supposedly transforming the body.” That’s why Pilates took off so fast. However, you must know that Joe Pilates, a fitness enthusiast in the 19th century, created the first reformer, or Pilates bed, in the hospital for injured WWII soldiers to help them with rehabilitation.
