Why Solo Walks Should be Your New Best Friend
Today we will discuss the hidden CEO benefits of walks/hikes with YOURSELF.
I know you might have your CEO workout buddy for running, walking, or hiking, which might be working very well for you; however, I would like to challenge or encourage you to do some solitary walking.
Why?
Well, here are some hidden CEO benefits of walks/hikes when you’re all on your own.
1. Leveling up — When you go walking for exercise without anyone holding you accountable except for yourself, you are leveling up in the maturity of your “CEO of my own body” mindset. When you schedule and follow through on self-initiated walks, you are stepping up as CEO of your own body.
2. Going IN instead of going OUT — When you walk with your friend, I know it feels good to talk about each other’s problems together. But your external conversation “holds you hostage” outside of your internal dialogue and prevents your examination of conscience and exploration of mind. When you walk on your own, instead of letting your mind default to dwelling upon your problems, you can bypass the problems and go deeper. The solutions to life’s problems are never on the same side as the challenges. Going inward will allow YOU to let go of the problems, at least during the time when you are walking. When I walk, I always listen to my favorite motivational or spiritual YouTube episodes or podcasts, which turn ON the switch to my Higher (Smarter) Self.
3. Wisdom — It never ceases to amaze me that my “randomly chosen” podcast or YouTube episodes ALWAYS turn out to provide me with answers or guidance for the specific issues I am trying to solve. So, after listening to the episodes, I continue to walk for 5–10 minutes in peace and silence in order to allow the wisdom to pour in: the advice, tips, ideas, suggestions, etc. Your solitary walk will strengthen you in becoming CEO of your own mind!
4. KNOWING yourself — When you walk with your friend and share your problems, usually she will tell you what you want to hear so you will feel better. However, her input makes you feel good for only a couple of hours. When you walk all on your own, some special “magic” (I don’t know what else to call it except “magic”) allows you to see the whole picture from the CEO vantage point: you see your own weakness and vulnerability (holding grudges, feelings of self-doubt, unwillingness to forgive, letting go or moving on), but also your strengths and skills and, most of all, your highest potential as a loving human being. In short, you become CEO of your own soul!
So, there you go: next time you are trying to figure out a walking time that accommodates your friend or your exercise group, elect to make the time RIGHT NOW…with YOURSELF! Choose to walk your own CEO path!
Try it, and please let me know how it goes. I promise you that you will bring home something magnificent every time you do your solitary CEO walks.
