Where our society went wrong with weight standards
The “Emperor bubble” is ruining your health and your body.
It makes me very sad and worried to see so many people living in their own emperor world. I am talking about the world of the Emperor from Hans Christian Andersen’s story The Emperor’s New Clothes. The Emperor in the story lives his delusional life. However, I don’t feel sorry for the Emperor, because he is the one who has chosen to believe in something that is more convenient for him. What does upset me is the manipulators, especially manipulators of today’s cultural beliefs. Instead of facing the truth that is difficult to face, the manipulators lower the bar for everyone. We see it in the academic world, in health and weight acceptance, and also in alcohol consumption.
Instead of helping students who have a hard time achieving higher grades, many schools have canceled their honor classes so those students who didn’t get into the more rigorous academic classes won’t feel bad. Basically, instead of striving to lift up those who are struggling, the school officials are bringing down those who strive and work hard. Let’s see how this all works out and reflects on those poor students’ generation as they step onto the world stage, when they are put in charge of their economy, health, academics, etc. How will they compare with other prestigious countries?
