The Reunion, The Wedding, The Revenge
What’s the ‘thing’ that is more powerful than self-discipline when it comes to sticking to your healthy body regimen?
I call motivation “short-term Willpower running on steroids,” while passion, I believe, is an infinite Divine Power running on Love.
We have all done it. The reunion, the wedding, the revenge…whatever the motivation, they are all great reasons to get our bodies into perfect shape. Lucky for us, with each fresh motivation comes a new Determination 2.0 to get into shape: we wake up in the morning with a plan. We exercise, we eat healthy food, we take classes, and we get it all done with zeal — because we are on a mission. We are super excited! It feels so fresh and new!
Until suddenly…it’s not so fresh and new anymore. We either run out of enthusiasm, or else something challenging comes up to distract us from our mission. Our motivation is out the window, because it runs out of batteries. Therefore, I say that human motivation has no source of long-term energy. I have done it (thus my extensive learning journey), and my clients have done it. Yes, at a young age, I often ran out of batteries myself — usually after a break-up!
Passion, on the other hand, is our motivation “plugged in.” If you are interested in learning more about Plugging in, please read my story: Say Goodbye to those Darn Menopausal Pounds! It is motivation, electrified — linked up to the Higher Source, the Universe, or God. It is motivation that will never run out of batteries. It is Energy that keeps us going, even after the “freshness” runs out. It is a Power that keeps us going through all the challenges and circumstances of life which will eventually (and inevitably) happen. This Energy is the voice that tells us, “DO NOT GIVE UP; your talents are REAL, and your dreams will come true!”
You have seen athletes, artists, and highly successful people go through struggles, pain, and hitting rock bottom — yet, they still wake up every morning and keep going. The voice keeps telling them, “We [Higher Power and You] are doing this together.”
I am not trying to diminish the motivation, and I am definitely not saying that motivation is bad. I am just saying that it is short-term, because eventually, it runs out of batteries. (Just think: how many of the same New Years Eve’s resolutions have you re-started every January?) On the other hand, Passion will never run out of batteries, because its source is Eternal Love. We can’t sustain the strict diets and extreme workout routines all our lives; eventually our bodies and minds will give up. If you want to get your body into shape and keep it that way for the rest of your life, then you MUST do it with PASSION: passion for yourself, for your health, for your body…passion for your inner Glow!
You see, with passion, you will never punish your body with bad food or a self-pity dessert binge, because you love and respect yourself. It’s like the exhausted mother who gets up to calm her crying child in the middle of the night. Her energy does not come from her self-discipline; it comes from the Love and passion she has for her child, which will never become exhausted. And because of that Love, she doesn’t punish her crying child. Rather, she gives her child extra Love. You see, when we build our bodies with motivation, we give ourselves no room for failure. When we have a bad day at work or at home and we skip the gym, we go into punishment mode. And that’s where all our goals stop.
When you find Love for yourself and are able to see that you, too, were created with HIS PASSION, and then you start taking care of your body with the same passion, I promise you: you will never disrespect your body. You will cherish it just like HE does. Once you plug into this energy and your body goals are set, you will begin running on eternal, UNSTOPPABLE Energy — and that, my CEO friend, is how you become the passionate CEO of your body, mind, and soul.
Try it! But I must warn you, it is addictive! :)
