Take charge of your body by following these two CEO Golden Rules
Financial CEO Rule: Earn more than you spend.
Fitness CEO Rule: Burn more than you eat.
If we were brutally honest with ourselves, we (and I mean all humans) would acknowledge that we actually know very well the things we should and shouldn’t do. We don’t really need signs that say NO LITTERING; we know very well that littering is wrong on all levels, yet we see so many public places that have been peppered with trash (hiking trails, movie theaters, parks, etc.). We don’t need a sign that says Please Take Only One next to the big cookie plate in the office, because we know that those cookies are intended for everyone — yet we still see some people in the elevator with 5 cookies hiding in their napkins. And the same goes for our Fitness and our Finances.
We know the Golden Rules, but our biggest challenge is following them. You know you can’t afford those shoes, but who can resist the sale? So, you “must” buy them. You know you shouldn’t consume that extra slice of pizza, piece of cake, or glass of wine, because you just started a new “weight loss program,” but this is “an exception”…just like all the other times.
Sometimes it feels like our bodies are going in three different directions. The first direction is our ego-mind that wants its cake or wine because it believes “I deserve it.” The second direction is our body that wants to stick with the Healthy Eating Plan; however, eventually it will do what our mind wants (and then it suffers the consequences and feels guilty): “I sure wish I hadn’t listened to my mind.” And the third direction — for now, let’s call it “Your Smarter YOU” — knows exactly what you should do. SHE doesn’t need any signs, any courses, or any programs on how to keep your body healthy and fit. SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING, including the Golden Rules, and SHE has no problem following them. SHE is just patiently waiting for you to connect with HER and listen.
Your hard work toward getting in shape with diets, fitness plans, and therapy has been unsuccessful thus far because everything you’ve done has focused ONLY on your body, ignoring the parts that make all the choices. So how do you switch over from the mind that knows better but still litters, takes more than one cookie, eats the extra pizza or cake, and buys the 25th pair of shoes you can’t afford? Truthfully, if we were wiser, we would bypass the physical body and mind and go straight to the ‘Smarter YOU’ part that is fully equipped with the highest Life and Health Intellect. In other words, SHE is much more powerful and more competent at creating what you desire than both your body and your mind.
I can’t emphasize this FACT enough: Without connecting to that ‘Smarter ME’ part of myself (I call her my Higher Self), I would never be able to keep my body healthy and fit. SHE is so good; SHE always keeps my eyes on the prize: my happy and healthy body! SHE is stronger than my willpower and my discipline. Trying to lose weight or accumulate wealth without your Smarter YOU (Higher Self) is like trying to drive a car in neutral or vacuuming without plugging in the vacuum cleaner — can you drive or vacuum without an engine or electricity? As you can see, knowing the CEO rules is not a problem. With my 20+ years in fitness, I know for sure that the biggest challenge to staying healthy and fit is to follow the rules.
Joseph Pilates figured it out a long time ago when he said:
“Ideally, our muscles should obey our will.”
Although you have been struggling to change your body for a long time, you need to know that your body is not Who You Are, but something you have, something which you are able to change and keep healthy and fit. When you connect with your Higher Self, with God, with your Higher Power (it really doesn’t matter what you call it) and let HER be in charge of your body, you will have no problem following the Golden CEO rules.

You must be pure of heart to have an efficient and impactful workout.
I have seen it over and over: I’ve witnessed people coming to the gym and “working out” instead of actually WORKING OUT. (Yes, it happens at home, too.) My motto for my fitness clients (and for my kids at home doing chores) has always been, “When you do it, do it RIGHT.” (Please check out my post about doing things right: Why Being Present is Crucial to Losing Weight.)
You waste your time and your money by doing your workouts with an impure heart.
What does it mean to be “pure” when you work out? It means that the substance (your heart) is not mixed with other substances; as a CEO of my own life, I call it “trash”.
Here are 5 reasons why you need a pure heart when you are working out, or in other words, why you should enlist Your Higher Self as a personal coach:
1. Muscle Toning: Mind-muscle connection happens when you deliberately contract your muscles while focusing your thoughts on that movement. Research suggests that mentally focusing on muscle contractions — even when you’re not physically moving — increases your cortical output (signals from your brain for muscle contraction and movement). This leads to higher levels of muscle activation, which is exactly what you need in order to maximize your toning.
2. Mind: Keeping your mind from being preoccupied with “trash” for at least 30–60 minutes will result in a happy mind for the rest of your day — that’s a great bargain!
3. Metabolism: When your mind is not present and you are still thinking about the “trash” while you are working out, your mind and body will never register that you were actually in the gym and working out. You’ll end up feeling even worse after the workout because you just wasted your time. Stress levels will increase, which can lead to the consumption of more junk food, increased appetite, and inability to sleep. All of these factors, combined with other stress symptoms, will just cause a negative spiral, leading to greater weight gain.
4. New ideas: I will admit that 90% of my ideas, inspirations, and solutions for life and business problems have come to me during my workouts and meditations; however, they come only if I empty my head and my heart of the “trash.” Otherwise, I am just adding more clutter to an already-overcluttered space.
5. Heart on fire: Finally, the MOST valuable reason to work out with a pure heart is to set your heart on fire. Have you tried to make a fire with way too many logs — overkilling it? Your pure heart after a workout is ready to burst into flame, ablaze with love for yourself, love for others, love for your job opportunities, love for your creativity…it is a fire of the LIFEFORCE!
Can you tell me of any better feeling than putting your clothes on after showering off from a great, sweaty workout, feeling empowered, satisfied, and happy? That GREAT, PURE, HAPPY FEELING that starts only with a pure heart helps us to follow the CEO Golden Rules.
Nothing is easy that is worth fighting for or working for. But your healthy and happy body is 100% worthy of fighting for. The more you work for it, the sweeter the victory tastes!
Just give your ALL and do your best in ALL things! Give it your pure heart! Before you know it, the Golden Rules will become your own principles.
