Do negative food and body thoughts keep you from achieving your goals?

Tell me if the following sounds like you.

  • You often say deprecating things to your body and feel disgusted with your body image
  • You hate everyone who has an ideal figure and a “perfect” body
  • You judge yourself harshly for eating that last piece of cake at midnight or finishing that bottle of wine

If you resonate with one or all of the above, you may have a hard time achieving your goals.

Reaching your goals is impossible when your focus is continually being pulled in the wrong direction. When your mind is plagued with health worries and negative body thoughts, you lose the focus and motivation to put in the effort. Consequently, it becomes difficult to create something valuable and reach your goals.

But for strong CEOs like you, giving up on dreams is never an option. This blog post will educate you about how to manifest your healthiest self and conquer your goals.

So without any further ado, let’s begin!

Say no to yo-yo dieting: How do diet plans mess with your head and health?

Whether you realize it or not, there’s a good chance that you view your body through the lens of diet culture.

Diet culture runs on the belief that different foods affect your body differently and lead to different appearances. It assumes that certain foods are morally better than others, and so is the person eating them.

This assumption is untrue as well as demoralizing. Firstly, no food is inherently “good” or “bad”. Secondly, equating your self-worth and moral virtue to how you eat or look doesn’t bring you any good. Instead, it plants the seed of guilt, shame, and body negativity in your mind.

“Diet culture teaches us that we are not good enough as we are and that we need to change — we internalise those messages, and they become part of our self-talk,”

- Rachel Goldman

“Once the negative self-talk finds space in our thoughts, it impacts our emotions and, thereafter, our behavior. Soon enough, these negative thoughts translate into a challenging and limiting reality full of diet plans, food rules, and stress eating.

I’ve been a victim of these constraining diet plans. When I came to the United States to complete my degree, I began to work diligently to transform my body into the most athletic shape possible. I wanted to realize my dreams of becoming a personal trainer and a fitness competitor. So I enrolled in every fitness competition and religiously followed all my diet plans. At this point, I appeared totally put together — but only on the outside. On the inside, I was becoming weak.

The extreme dieting involved in the competitions took quite a toll on my mental stamina. Consequently, I developed an eating disorder that took me ten years to overcome. This disorder turned me into a “food prisoner” and fostered a love-hate relationship between my body and food.

It felt as if I was spiraling out of control. I tried acupuncture, hypnosis, excessive exercise, extreme dieting, did prayer, and meditation, and read every popular book on mindset. But nothing ever worked until one day when I figured out the “secret” to keeping my body fit and healthy. The secret lies in living in alignment with the higher source and eating healthy.

Healthy Eating: What is it and how can it improve your health?

Healthy eating means eating nutrient-rich foods that give you energy, make you feel good, and pave the way to robust health in the long term. The realm of healthy eating doesn’t label foods as “good” or “bad”. It doesn’t restrict you from eating certain kinds of food. Instead, it offers space to enjoy your favorite treats every once in a while.

Healthy eating runs on the premise that there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution to health and fitness. The foods and exercises that work wonders for one person might not work at all for the other. So instead of treating everyone with a standard diet plan or a typical physical fitness program, healthy eating encourages you to tune into your body and listen to its unique needs. This helps you create a personalized eating and exercise practice based on what works for YOU.

Healthy eating aims to improve and maintain your health in the long term. It helps you achieve a healthy weight (instead of a purposeless low weight), boosts your immunity, and strengthens your bones and muscles. Healthy eating also frees your mind from the absurd responsibilities of counting calories and remembering “food rules” and makes you more present.

3 Steps to Cultivating a Healthy Eating Practice

Step 1: Begin by connecting with the higher source

If you want to take the ultimate control of your health and fitness, you can’t start by focusing on your body.

Why? Because…

Where the mind goes, the body follows.

Suppose your mind can’t see (or is not willing to go) where you wish to go. In that case, the body will eventually lose the power to practice healthy eating and transform itself into your desired shape.

However, convincing a human’s mind is not that easy. It often prefers the short-term pleasure of consuming junk food over the long-term happiness of balanced health. It likes to chase the goal of achieving a “beach body” instead of the fulfillment of feeling healthy and good about yourself.

So what can convince your mind to walk and continue the path of healthy eating?

It’s none other than the higher source — the being that’s more powerful than your mind. The one who pumps blood through your veins and air into your lungs while you are asleep. The one who watches over you unconditionally and lovingly. That’s where a lasting motivation to eat healthy comes from.

I like to call her my “Inner Being,” my “Better Me”, or my “Unconditional Friend.” It doesn’t matter what you name it. You just need to know that SHE is the best version of you. She loves you unconditionally and infinitely. And she is doing everything to help you be just like HER: loving, joyful, and successful — because that’s who YOU are meant to be. She is your Inner Voice — your GPS. She is the only one your mind cannot manipulate or intimidate. She is the one your mind genuinely respects.

All you have to do is connect with her and follow her guidance, and soon enough, you will reach your destination.

Step 2: Verify you’re on the right path

“How do I know whether or not I am rightly following the guidance of the higher source?”

This is a doubt most people have when they begin to connect to the source. They struggle to know if they are, in fact, following Her voice and Her wisdom.

The answer to this doubt is simple. You know through your feelings. When you feel good, it’s a sign that you are on the right path and moving closer to Her. On the other hand, feelings of guilt, anger, self-judgment, lack of energy and inspiration, and self-doubt are all signs that you are heading in the wrong direction — away from Her. The more severe the pain, the farther away you are from Her.

Let me paint a vivid picture to explain this well to you.

This is how it feels like when you are in alignment with the source and on the right path

Picture this. You wake up early in the morning and happily work out to set yourself up for a successful day. Your decision to work out isn’t fuelled by feelings of shame towards your body. Instead, it is driven by the desire to make yourself feel good for the rest of the day.

You shower and look at yourself in the mirror. You feel so good and so proud of yourself. You feel good while putting on your clothes: you love yourself. Then, your thoughts begin to drift to the important meeting you have today. Because you feel so good and “on fire,” new ideas are flowing in to help you shine during your important moment. Finally, you walk into the presentation, and you seem to radiate a light that brightens up the whole room! It is impossible to resist your glow or deny your proficiency.

During the meals, you skip chips because eating junk will sabotage your performance for the rest of the workday. So you remain loyal to your decision to eat healthy, nourishing food. After the meal, you work with full focus in your office and then head home.

After arriving home, you recall you have a party to attend tonight. You don’t say no to the party because you possess the knowledge and self-control to choose what keeps your body healthy and simultaneously brings you fun.

So you go and rock the party. Your “Full self-control” protocol guides you to choose, in appropriate amounts, the best foods from what’s being served. Finally, you come back home, feel satisfied with your day and sleep peacefully.

Feels like a miracle, right?

The truth is, you can live this miracle every day. These blissful days can become your natural state of being. This is how most of your days will feel when you are connected with the source.

When you are out of alignment, this is what your day looks like:

When you’ve chosen to ignore HER inner voice, you wake up with feelings of guilt, shame, and anger, upset that you have “done it again.” With your mind preoccupied, shaming and belittling, you begin to get ready for your meeting. Your clothes don’t feel right. Your hair looks funky. The distracting thoughts don’t stop until you’ve entered the office, and without that special glow, you fail to light up the room.

Step 3: Visualise “feelings” and take little steps

After you’ve successfully established a connection with the source, it’s time to get rid of your limiting beliefs and bring changes in your life.

How do you do that? Here’s the trick.

The big shift in my ability to free myself from negative food-and-body thoughts came when I finally changed my form of dreaming. Instead of dreaming in pictures, I began to dream in “feelings.” I no longer imagine myself looking great in a bikini or a beautiful dress. Instead, I picture myself feeling happy, excited, motivated, and inspired when I wake up in the morning. I imagine myself living a life that I love.

As a result, when it’s time to make my food choices, my question shifts from “Will this make me fat?” to “Will I wake up tomorrow morning feeling happy after eating this food?”, “Will I still be happy tomorrow after neglecting to go for the walk I promised myself today?”

But before you ask these questions to yourself, make sure your promise to become fit and healthy matters to you. Then, start with your Highest Thoughts about yourself. Imagine the YOU that you would be if you lived those Highest Thoughts in every moment of every day. Imagine what you would create, think, do, say, and eat. Imagine how you would respond to the situations in your life, your callings, and your goals. Accept that you have the power to create a reality that you are envisioning. Then, begin to ask these questions and make better choices around health and nutrition.

You will give yourself the most important gift of all: the space and time to create and work on your dreams by freeing yourself from body-shaming, guilty, and hateful thoughts. So instead of scolding yourself for consuming that enormous slice of pizza while driving along the freeway, you will be thinking creative ideas about the next steps toward your dreams.

Note that time and space are not the only gifts you’ll give yourself. An even more critical gift is a spark — the enthusiasm and the joy to work on your dreams. It is that same excitement that prompts you to wake up in the morning: love for yourself and love for life.

Final Thoughts

Do you want your life to take off? Start loving yourself, eating healthy, and exercising by respecting your feelings and Her Inner Voice — and no matter what, remain LOYAL to HER. Allow Her to guide you to the very best version of yourself.
