How do you take care of your body and stay in shape while going through life’s challenges?
As a coach and personal trainer for 25-plus years, I have learned that fear of the unknown is the most significant factor and influence when it comes to giving up on our bodies, by which I mean overeating and following unhealthy lifestyles — including the choice not to exercise. Unsurprisingly, our brains can’t handle this neglect and ask for immediate consolation in the form of food. If we were able to separate food and emotions from each other and not mix them up, I believe we would solve the weight gain issues. If you think about it, we would eat only when we are hungry, which is the right time and the best reason to eat.
Here are some practical tips I share with my clients to help them get their health and body shape under their own control, even while going through some of the biggest challenges in their lives.
Trifecta
The biggest challenges (divorce, loss of loved ones, job loss) mostly come when they are least expected, like a perfect storm; therefore, the way to overcome them is to counter-attack using the perfect trifecta. This means that, in order to make yourself stronger and more resilient than the storm, you need to harness fitness, food, and faith factors all at the same time. Why?
