How can I build the momentum to stick with a healthy lifestyle for the rest of my life?

Based on my observations during the first sessions with my clients, I would say there are two groups of people starting their body-shaping journeys. Notice I said “journeys,” because I always say that shaping the body (losing weight and building muscle) is just like running a marathon. When you run a marathon or any long-distance race, you must pace yourself in order to make it to the finish line. The people in the two groups I mentioned are categorized by the speed of the first few miles right after the whistle blows. The first group is made up of the people who start sprinting, which translates to starting their plan immediately with strict diets and working out seven days a week. The second group is made up of people who are so discouraged by the distance that they start off super slowly, thinking the goal is unachievable. After the first mile of the very slow walk, they want to quit because they can’t see the Light at the end of the tunnel. This group is mostly made up of people who don’t believe they can ever lose weight or get strong; before even giving it a chance, they are ready to quit. After all, what’s the point of hard work if I already know I will never make it?
