Since I’ve reached my menopausal milestone, I have been a passionate advocate for Pilates because I truly believe it is the best form of physical activity, especially for women after 50. Although there are many hidden and obvious benefits of Pilates (please read How can Pilates Help Your Career?), lately I have been recognizing through my menopausal clients that there is an additional, crucial benefit to performing Pilates that not many women are aware of because we mostly pay attention to the size of our BBs (butts and bellies). However, I find this not-so-known benefit to be extremely important: it is cognitive stimulation and overall mental health. You might believe that every form of exercise results in overall mental health improvement because, after any form of physical activity, we feel better, more relaxed, and less stressed. However, in this article, I want to talk about how Pilates could and should be considered as the next level of mental exercise, and consequently, it can prevent dementia and improve cognitive stimulation.
