The bigger your circle, the more committed you are to your wellness goals. How Big is Your Circle?

This past weekend, I had coffee with one of my Pilates clients. She has been coming to my classes for a while, and I truly love her energy and hard work. She told me that her consistent attendance at my classes has proven to be her longest streak for sticking with her fitness goals. I wanted to help her even more, so we got together for a coffee chat. She shared with me how her dramatic past had spiraled into uncontrollable weight gain. She said, “I felt like all walls were closing in on me. I literally couldn’t breathe.”

I could see her circle shrinking as she continued with her story of being dependent on people, food, and self-pity. When I talk to my personal clients about their freedom of choice regarding what is good for their bodies, I ask them, “How big is your circle? How far (or close) from you are those limiting walls?” The question makes them pause. I continue, “Do YOU, or the circumstances of your life (the boss you hate, your ex, job loss, etc.), choose your food? Who influences your decision to stay home instead of getting some exercise? Is it YOU or your life that has gotten out of control? And finally, who are the people who are there with you in that tiny circle? Are those people helping you to make the circle bigger…
