Multiple Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

I have been asked a lot of questions about intermittent fasting (IF), and the most frequent question I receive is whether or not IF is healthy. I have been stuck on this topic for a while for one very frustrating reason: when I hit menopause, my hormones and my body “turned against me.” (That’s truly how it felt.) For ten years I haven’t changed anything in my diet or exercise, yet suddenly, without adding any extra calories or skipping my workouts, the pounds were creeping up on me. It was very subtle, but very consistent. I looked in the mirror and realized that if I didn’t change something but continued my same regimen, within a few months, I would gain 10 pounds. So, I simply made my cardio more “aggressive” and I cut down on nuts and other healthy snacking and stuck to healthy main meals. And still…no change occurred! After a whole month, I didn’t lose any weight at all — and that really scared me. I realized that those stubborn hormones are truly going to do their own thing. On top of gaining weight, my joints started to hurt. I was waking up in the morning to teach my Pilates classes, feeling like I was 100 years old. It was simply unacceptable: there was no way I would let those blasted hormones wreck my body and my life.
